In Geography we have been looking at similarities and differences of places in the world (Think back to the Mekong River Venn diagram)
I would like you to choose ONE other CAPITAL CITY in Australia and describe how it is similar and how it differs to living in Adelaide. Think climate, attractions, transport and liveability.
Alex I choose Sydney
Adelaide’s climate is like the Mediterranean we usually have mild winters and hot and sometimes dry summer but we sometimes have it all over Sydney’s climate is temperate, having warm, sometimes hot summers and mild winters, with no extreme seasonal differences as the weather goes on.
Adelaide’s attractions, Adelaide’s has the botanic gardens, Adelaide oval, adelaide zoo, rundle mall, the beach house, Adelaide museum and others Sydney’s attractions, Sydney opera house, Sydney harbour bridge, Taronga zoo, Bondi beach, port Jackson, ANZ stadium and a lot of others
Adelaide’s transport, The metropolitan area of Adelaide south Australia is served by a inclusive variety of transport. Being centrally located on the Australian mainland, it from the east-west and north-south routes.
Sydney’s transport , Sydney has the highest rate of public transport usage among the Australian capital cities.
Adelaide’s liveability’s Adelaide has overtaken Sydney as one of the worlds most liveable cities.
Sydney liveability’s, is 1 of the top ten easy places to live even know that have a lot of traffic issues
By Hannah C-F:):):):)!!!!
I have chosen Hobart,
In Hobart the climate is colder then Adelaide e.g. the average temperature in Adelaide during summer is 29 and the average temperature in Hobart during summer is 21.
The public transportation in Hobart is different to ours to e.g. they have buses and taxis but we also have trains and trams, so we have more public transport.
We have more people in Adelaide then Hobart, we have about 1.3 million people and Hobart has about 218 thousand.
Thanks for reading
Coby: Darwin
In Adelaide its not as hot as Darwin because Darwin is closer to the equator. The cost of living in Darwin is higher because of trance port. Darwin has kakadoo national park and Adelaide doesn’t have a big national park. We have similar animals but they have crocs. They have more attractions then us. and they have a lot of history there with cyclone Tracy and the world war tunnels.
i choose hobart. hobart’s climate is described as mild temperate maritime. The warmest months are December, January, February and March with average temperatures of 21 degrees. the average of rainfall is 626 millimetres of rainfall. all the winter months are the wettest.
the difference between adelaide and hobart is that the average summer temperatures are 17-23 degrees and the average summer temperatures adelaide are 29-40 or even hotter! so adelaide can get very warm in the summer months :). hobart is definitely not as hot as adelaide as you can see at the top (17-23).
I choose Brisbane.
Brisbane has a sub tropical climate. Most of the year the weather is warm or hot. Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate with very hot Summers and mild Winters. They both get hot in Summer.
Brisbane has two sports stadiums, Alma Park Zoo and a koala sanctuary. It has lots of outdoor things to do because of the hot weather. Adelaide has a lot more cultural events and festivals. Both places have zoos.
Adelaide has buses, trains, o-bahn and trams. Brisbane has buses and trains but not trams or the o-bahn.
Brisbane is a very liveable city because of the good weather and open spaces. Adelaide is also a good city to live in and is cheaper than Brisbane.
Adelaide vs Perth
Adelaide:
the climate is a Mediterranean type weather that is sunny weather year round with unreliable rainfall.
attractions are wineries north & south of city, good beaches close by, Botanic Gardens, and River Torrens.
the transport is trains, trams, cars, buses, bikes, and on foot.
livability in 2014 &2015 Adelaide was named as the 5th most livable city in the world.
Perth:
the climate in winter is cool & wet but also has a Mediterranean style climate.
attractions are sandy beaches, Botanic Gardens, Swan River, and wineries to south.
transport are trains, buses, ferry, cars, and on foot.
livability in 2014 Perth was named 9th most livable in the world.
It appears that Adelaide and Perth have quite a few similarities.
I have chosen Melbourne and of course Adelaide.
Adelaide:
It’s true, but Adelaide has less population,1.251 million. Adelaide is in SA (South Australia) and Melbourne is not. Adelaide has mild winters with moderate rainfall and warm to hot, dry summers. Adelaide has a hotter temperature in average to Melbourne.
Melbourne:
Melbourne has more population than Adelaide, it has 4.087 million. Melbourne also has better transportation. It’s also in Victoria. Melbourne often has warm to hot summers; mild, temperate springs and autumns; and cool winters. Temperatures average 25°C in summer and 14°C in winter. Melbourne has a cooler climate in average to Adelaide.
Similarities:
They are both in Australia. They both have transportation. Adelaide and Melbourne both have food and water and things that keep you alive.
Thanks for reading! 😉
I choose Perth, Western Australia.
Climate:
The hottest month in Perth is January with an average temperature of 25 degrees. This is similar to Adelaide, which has an average of 23 degrees. The coldest month is same in both cities, with an average of 13 degrees in Perth, and 11 degrees in Adelaide.
Population:

Adelaide:
Adelaide Oval
Victoria Square

Big Rocking Horse
Location:
Perth is located in Western Australia, and Adelaide is in South Australia.
I am choosing Sydney
The climate for Adelaide in Summer can get very hot and it is very rare for you to get a cold day in the middle of Summer in Adelaide, but while it is Winter you can get very cold days but sometimes you can get warm days that are not to cold but not to hot, so kind of like a ‘perfect day’ you could call it. The climate for Sydney in Summer would basically be the same as Adelaide so very hot Summers and with Winter it gets very mild winter days.
The population of Adelaide is 1.30 million, but for Sydney the population is much higher as its 5 million. Sydney has such a big population because its the most popular capital city in Australia.
Some of the tourist attractions in Adelaide are Adelaide oval, Adelaide zoo, Victoria Square, Adelaide, Cleland conservation park, The big rocking horse, Belair national park and there is many more if i had to name them all you would be reading this forever.
Some of the tourist attractions in Sydney are Sydney opera house, Sydney Harbour bridge,Sydney Tower, Luna Park Sydney, Wild life Sydney just like Adelaide there are too many to list now.
In Adelaide the transport is cars, bikes, trains, buses, trucks, helicopters, planes and by foot which is just walking. Sydney has all the same transports like Adelaide.
Hope you liked my facts 😛
I choose Brisbane
Adelaides climate is hot and dry. Brisbanes climate is hot, warm and humid, it is similar to Adelaides. We have 12 beaches streaching along our coastline and Brisbane doesnt have any beaches only one man-made beach. We have different time zones because of day light savings in the SA.

I have chosen Darwin
Differences:
Here are some differences. Darwin has crocodiles and their climate is hotter than some other counties. We have different times to Darwin. So if it was 5:00am it would be 4:00am in Darwin.
Similarities:
The similarities are that Adelaide has the same transport as Darwin we all have cars, boats, planes, buses, trucks and taxis. We have mostly the same food and animals. We both have hotels, transport, schools, work buildings, beaches, museums, and national parks.

In 2015 Adelaide was 5th in the world for the most livable city.
Population
In 2012 the population of Adelaide was 1251 million.
You can see from the facts that I found out leads to, that there are some similarities and some differences.
Similarities and Differences
Adelaide
Canberra
Size
1,827km2
814.2km2
Population
1.251million (2012)
356.585 (2011)
Transport
Buses are the main form of transport in Canberra.
Adelaide has buses, trains and tramps because it is a bigger city.
Climate
Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate, mild winters with moderate rainfall and warm to hot dry summers.
Canberra has a dry continental climate. Hot, dry summers, cold winter, with fog and sometimes snow.
Position
Adelaide is built on the coastline.
Canberra was built between Melbourne and Sydney. It was not built on the coastline.
Liveability
Col. William Light designed the city of Adelaide in 1836. (It is a planned city.)
Canberra was founded March 1913. It was designed by an American architect called Walter Burley Griffin.
Both cities were designed and planned making them very easy to live and get around.
They both have good roads and easy to use transport systems.
Attractions
Beaches
Museums
Wineries
Parliament house
War museums
I thought the best way to compare cities was with a graph. Both cities are well planned out and easy to live in. But they are different in size, population and Canberra is the capital city of Australia and Adelaide is the capital city of the state South Australia. Their climate is different because of where they are situated in Australia.
i had these things in graph. unfortunately it didn’t work out…….. sorry. ): I’ll bring you the original tomorrow at school.
I chose Queensland. Queensland gets a lot more humidity than Adelaide does. Adelaide is more dry than humid, so it is a lot harder to grow plants and keep cool. In Queensland, plants and weeds grow a lot quicker than ours because as I said, it is a lot more humid, Which means that it takes a lot more work to water and plant plants without them over growing. I mentioned plants because it is TRUE. Thanks for reading!😃
I choose Canberra.
Canberra vs Adelaide.
Firstly, the average winter temperature in Canberra is 0 degree celsius and the summer hits an average of 28 degrees. Adelaide – Summer 30 degrees. Winter 15 degrees.
Adelaide’s population is 1.3 million and Canberra’s population is 376,000.
Adelaide’s area is 1,827 square km. Canberra’s area is 814.2 square km.
Adelaide Attractions: Cleland Wildlife Park, Kangaroo Island,Adelaide Zoo, Belair National Park and Rundle Mall.
Canberra Attractions: Lake Burley Griffin, Telstra Tower, Australia national gallery and National dinosaur museum.
Major differences between two of the capital cities: Population, Climate, state(or territory)and the area of both cities.
There are even lots of similarities like public transport and one main thing…. Both are in Australia🇦🇺👍🏼😜
Perth
Perth shares many similarities with Adelaide, yet there are some differences too.
Perth’s population is 1.8 million and Adelaide’s population is 1.3 million
Perth is known as The City Of Light
Adelaide is known as The City of Churches
The average maximum temperature in Perth in January is 31.3 degrees, and for the same period in Adelaide the average is 29.3 degrees.
Both cities have a river running through them, in Adelaide the Torrens and in Perth the Swan. Whilst both cities are situated on plains Adelaide bored by the Mount Lofty Ranges to the east.
Both Adelaide and Perth have bus and train routes servicing the city, but Perth has a ferry service and Adelaide a tram service.
Perth’s economy relies on servicing the business sector and the mining sector, whereas Adelaide’s economy is focussed on manufacturing and health care.
I’m doing similarities and differences between Sydney and Adelaide.
first climate. (weather) in Sydney The weather is usually hotter because it is closer to the southern hemisphere witch means its hotter. But in winter the two places are very cold some times Sydney is colder and sometimes Adelaide is.
Next up is sights and tourists attractions. In Sydney there are lots of city area, tall buildings and amusement parks while because of how big it is there is also lots of farm land. In Adelaide there is a lot of city area and roads and also farm and hill land so I think Sydney has more but in some spots they are about the same.
Finally shops, malls and commercial buildings. In Sydney they have lots of cities that are usually a lot bigger then Adelaide’s ones so that means more of these three things above.
