In our reading groups we all have been reading a novel and during book club talking about our thoughts on the book.
I would like you to answer the following questions based on the book you and your group are reading. Make sure you include examples.
If you haven’t finished the text, just answer to the best of your ability and reflect on the part of the text that you have finished.
· What is this text about? How do we know?
· Who would be most likely to read and/or view this text and why?
My book is D.I.Y. spy. The text is about a boy called Johnny who wants to be a spy. He creates a webpage pretending to be a spy. A government agency called MI6 recruits him thinking he’s the real deal. Johnny meets Penny Pounds who becomes his sidekick. MI6 sets Penny on a mission that Jonny doesn’t know about, the mission is to find out if he is a real spy. We know this because that’s the plot and it’s what we read . I think that this book would most likely to be read by year 3s and 4s and both boys and girls. I think this because I find it a bit to easy and some jokes would be more appealing to a younger audience, it’s not the best book I’ve ever read.
my book is osbert. in the book osbert, his parents don’t want to look after osbert because he is way to clever. his parents cant cope. his grandma looks after osbert now. she is a secret murderer, till osbert found out! I will tell you how found out, osbert found out one night he was on his own and he went in to his grannys bedroom and saw an appealing compartment which had all of her husbands names and letters, then his granny caught osbert in her room then she admitted that she was a murderer. she told osbert, “I only murder people who annoy me”. that was the only reason she murders. personally I do not really like this book. I think it has to much to it. I would recommend this book for a grade 6 or higher because it involves murdering and not very nice things. so my rating of my reading book is about 2 stars.
My book is called holes and its about a boy called Stanley, his family was a pore family. Stanley was just in the wrong spot at the wrong time, as sneakers fell from the sky (not really) and his dad was doing an experiment on sneakers so Stanley took the sneakers home, but the sneakers he took were a famous baseball players, so people thought he was stealing them so he got sent to court. Then he got the choice to go to jail or to go to Camp Green Lake, which was a lake but now it is just a very big amount of dry land. When he got there his punishment was to dig holes everywhere in search for lost treasure that could of been in the lake. Stanley made friends as there was a few boys there as well. I think that the book Holes is for an older audience so I think around year 6 or 7 so the age 11 to maybe 13 and for boys and girls, because there are a few things in the book that when you read it, it sounds like it is for older children and because some things get a bit rough between the boys and the people that are in charge there. But I think Holes is a good book, because from what I’m up to its exciting as few things have been happening here and there. I haven’t got far in the book yet but I think there is going to be heaps of things happening to Stanley at the Lake
My book for literacy rotation my book is Holes. The book is about a boy called Stanley. He was caught for a crime because he stole sneakers that have been thrown out the window of a famous baseball player. He stole the sneakers because his dad has been doing an experiment on sneaker. Then he was sent to court. Stanley’s punishments were to go to jail or to go to Camp Green Lake. He chose Camp Green Lake. When he got to Camp Green Lake, it was really hot and there wasn’t any lake. Stanley was in cabin B. Along the way Stanley met some friends and also helped some for example Stanley helped a friend called Zero learn to write and read. They had to dig holes about 3 feet deep and 3 feet wide because that is what their punishment was. In my opinion the book Holes is a good and appropriate for the ages around 11 to 13, around years 5 to 7. The book is good for no pacific genders, so it can be girl or boy. There will be rough things going on in the book with the kids and the councilors, so the book is best for the ages I have mentioned. Even though the book sounds bad it is quite a good book and it is exciting, although I haven’t finished the book I feel excited on what Stanley is going to do next.
my book is do it yourself spy which is about a teenage boy called Johnny danger. he makes a fake website about being a spy and the secret spy group MI6 actually believes him and recruits him ! he then gets picked up by a helicopter. he meets Penelope pounds who becomes his sidekick. he was recruited to stop the evil villain Dr disastrous from releasing his RUDEE virus into peoples computers. the RUDEE virus does is it makes people say silly things when they weren’t supposed to. I think it would be read by ages 8 to 11 because some of the jokes for little kids but mostly not. overall I give it a 6 out of ten.
Alex My book is holes holes is about a boy called Stanley who is accused of stealing sneaker from a ofanagwe the sneakers belonged to a famous enough baseball player. The baseball player had donated them to a ofanagwe that he had gone to. A boy (zero) had stolen and thrown them in the air and just as Stanley was walking under the bridge they fell on him. Stanley got sent to court and had the option to go to jail or to go to camp green lake. He choose camp green lake which was a place boys got sent if they did a bad thing. At camp green lake boys who get sent there have to digs holes for there punishments and they start digging the holes at like 5:00am in the morning till whenever they finish digging there holes, the holes have to be 5 feet wide and 5 feet long which is the length of there shovels.back when most of the people there weren’t alive the lake was a real lake but something terrible happened and the lake dried up one of the charter in the old days was miss Katherine Barlow she was a school teacher and she fell in love with a onion seller who was some other cultural who couldn’t kiss white girls because he had a different skin colour, someone saw them kiss and it got around town. Sam who was that onion pucker ended up getting shot on the lake which is (camp green lake) ever since then the lake had dried up and miss Katherine turned in to kissin Kate Barlow who was a killer and a robber she robbed Stanley’s great grandfather and she berried the loot which is why the warden wants the boys to dig so that she can find it. Stanley is in a group which is called group D the other member of the group are zigzag, armpit, squid, X-ray, and zero. Zero doesn’t know how to read or write so Stanley helps zero to read and right but in return zero had to help Stanley dig half of his hole because zero is a fast digger. When the warden found out she said that zero couldn’t help Stanley and Stanley couldn’t help zero, Stanley had explained it to the warden who then started saying letter of words and zero answered with the correct answer except the last one which is said was chat instead of hat mr pedenski who I will talk about later keep saying how zero was unless and stupid and dump so zero wacked him across the face with a shovel and ran out in the hot dry dersert. The charcters all the people in group D, the warden, Kate Barlow, mr sir and mr pedenski mr sir and mr pedenski are like the wardens helps they diliver water to the boys while they are dodging and they just help around the camp i think that holes is not for any grades lower than year 6 so I think it’s appropriate for grades 6, 7 and onwards so 11 years olds and up I think this because it’s got to do with stuff that they might think are boring and its manly got boys. And the boys fight sometimes and stuff like that. I rate holes 11 out of 10 and I really enjoy it can’t wait to finish it even know I know what happens I know all this because I have read it and seen the movie which is a lot like the book and yeah

My book is Johnny Danger DIY Spy. · What is this text about? How do we know? The book I’m reading is about a boy called Jonathon Dangerfield, who wants to be a spy, who defeats evil villains and saves the world. His best friend is called Tim. When Johnny gets recruited to MI6 he gets a chance to outsmart evil villain Dr Disasterous and save the world from the RUDEE virus-a virus which turns normal words into rude words. · Who would be most likely to read and/or view this text and why? I think ages 8-12 because it may not make sense to younger aged children. It makes me want to read on!
Sofia My book is Osbert the avenger. The text is about a boy called Osbert that is extremely clever, and his parents think he’s too clever for them. So they hired a nanny to take care of Osbert until he was enrolled in his new academy school, the Institute. Everyone at the academy is very cruel to Osbert and his new friend, Isabella. Both Isabella and Osbert have a good teacher that is a lot less cruel than the rest.Personally, I rate this book two stars because I don’t really like the book. There is too much going on and words a that are a little (only a little) complicated that I expected. I think this book appeals to a grade six or seven. Why? Because it is a very serious book that is a little hard to understand for younger than grade six. Thanks for reading😀
My book is called Johnny Danger D.I.Y Spy. It is about a boy who thought he was a spy he even had his own spy website. When he got recruited to be in MI6 he was not sure about it. He was about to go on mission when the police caught up with him and they were forced to go over the bridge but it was only half constructed and they prepared them selfs and the viper for submarine mode. That’s all I’ve read up to.
Johnny Danger, D.I.Y Spy- By Peter Millett. “FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION” Real Name: Johnathon Dangerfield. Best Friend: Tim. Johnny Danger is a spy online, who posts fake missions on his spy blog. MI6- a spy agency, recruited Johhny, thinking he was a real spy. Martin- Who works at MI6, sends Johnny on a mission with his new sidekick, Penelope Pounds. Martin has a quick word with Penelope, “If you find out he’s not who he says he is, you know what to do.” Is a brief side of what Martin said to Penelope. The mission is, that they are trying to stop Dr. Disastrous from releasing the RUDEE VIRUS, The RUDEE VIRUS changes words to make them rude for example, YOU= POO. I rate this 4/5, It’s unique to other spy books, but spy books aren’t really my thing. I would recommend this to 6-9, it’s better for a younger audience, because at this age not many children find fart jokes funny, or even amusing anymore.
Holes My book is about a poor boy called Stanley that is accused for stealing sneakers from a famous baseball player that had donated them to an orphanage that he use to go to. But a boy called Zero stole and threw the sneakers high into the air and they hit Stanley as he was walking under a bridge. Stanley picked up the sneakers and someone saw him holding the sneakers so he got sent to court. His two choices were either court or camp green lake. Stanley had chosen camp green lake which was a place where boys got sent if they had done a bad thing. Stanley drove to camp green lake on a bus where he met the staff. He entered a room which is where he met Mr Sir. Mr Sir was quite tough and he was in a bad mood. He led Stanley to his cabin and that’s where he met Mr. Pedenski who introduced Stanley to all the boys in the cabin (there were different cabins which were called groups, their group was called group ‘D’) (the other groups aren’t included in this story). The boys names were called Squid, Armpit, Zigzag, Magnet, Zero and X-ray. These aren’t the boys real names but they called each other nick names, they called Stanley Cave man because he looked big like a cave man. Mr Pedenski preferred to call them by their real names that their parents gave them. History of camp green lake Camp green lake doesn’t have water in it’s lake because of a big drought that happened 100 years ago, now it was just a hot, dry waste land. 100 years ago there was a Woman called Kathrine Barlow who was a school teacher that all her students loved. One day she met Sam the onion seller that use to eat onions all the time, even his donkey ate them. Kate had kissed Sam which was illegal in those days because she had white skin and Sam had a different colored skin. But someone saw them around town and reported it to the sheriff who was one of the people who fell in love with Kathrine. So he asked Kathrine why she kissed the onion seller and not him, and tried to get her to kiss him but she thought he was crazy by doing that so she ran away with Sam and They started to swim across the lake. But as they were swimming Sam had been shot in the head, and same with his donkey. Kathrine was so upset that she changed her self to Kissi’n Kate who went around robbing banks and killing people, and every time she killed someone she kissed them. Eventually she killed the sheriff and kissed him as he asked. 15 years had past( the drought had come and everything was all dried up) and one of her old students called Henry and his wife approached her. He asked where all the loot that she robbed was. Kate refused to tell him. So him and his wife pinned her to the ground and held a gun at her. She agreed to tell them where it was but it was a long walk to where it was. All of them started walking around the dry dirt until Henry was loosing his patients and stabbed Kate with the back of his shovel he was holding. Kate collapsed onto the dirt. They then saw a poisonous lizard that bit Kate on the ankle. Henry and his wife watched in horror screaming at her to tell her where all of the loot was. Kate said no matted how hard they looked they would never find it. Kate had died laughing. Back to Stanley Every day Stanley and the other boys would dig hole 5 feet wide and 5 feet tall, and if they found something interesting they would report is back to Mr Sir or Mr Pedenski who would give it it to the Warden, if the Warden liked the item she would let the boy who found it have the rest of the day off. The Warden was the boss of all of them, you would think the Warden is a boy right? WRONG the Warden is a girl who is trying to seek the treasure of Kate Barlow. Stanley made a deal with X-ray that whatever he found he gave to X-ray, because X-ray couldn’t see very well because of his glasses, they were always dirty and he couldn’t see properly. One day when Stanley was digging he found an old lipstick container that inside of it said two letters (KB which stood for Kate Barlow). He gave it to X-ray and X-ray gave it to Mr Sir. Mr Sir said he would give it to the Warden. The Warden liked it so X-ray got the day off. I think it should be for older kids at least 8- 13 years because the book has lots of violence and death in it. I like the book it is very unique compared to most of the books i read. I’m giving it an 8/10. 🙂 😛
“Pasta Detectives” is about a boy named Rico. Rico thinks he is the best at everything when he really is not. Rico always loses things and can never find them again. He became a detective so he could work out where he had lost things and to help his friends. Mr Fitz is Rico’s neighbour. Mr Fitz doesn’t like Rico as Mr Fitz thinks Rico is annoying. This book is hard to understand as it talks about one thing and then it jumps to another. I give it 2 stars ☆☆ out of ten.
Pasta Detective The main character is called Rico. Rico isn’t very good at many things he loses lots of things too. In the book his best friend Oscar goes missing and Rico goes looking for him. Rico has a neighbour who doesn’t like him, because he thinks he is annoying. His name is Mr Fitz. Rico became a detective to help his friends and himself. I give this book 3 out of ten.
My book is call Pasta Detectives. It is about a boy call Rico, he is a detective and he tries to solve things as small a who dropped a piece of pasta? He lives at 93 Diffe Street. I think that this book would be most likely to be read by year 3’s and 4’s because I think that they would enjoy it more than I did.
Red this story is about a girl named red who was in a cyclone and doesn’t remember anything about her or her past. when she wakes up she is covered in dirt and mud and has a lockett containing a secret message. she meets a boy called peri who is working to help survivors of the cyclone. peri helps red by giving her food and shelter and form a close friendship. a young girl called jazz recognises red from previous and their friendship which helps red have a few memorie flash backs. peri, red and jazz leave together to try to find red’s dad. peri guides the girls to stay safe and away from the authorites. red believes she must get the secret message in the Lockett to her dad ergantly. i think the book is aimed at students 11 years plus because a level of maturity is needed due to the context of some of the words used.
